Blackwood – The Bevin Boys

About 20 members and 2 visitors gathered for the March meeting to hear a talk by Mark Batchelder from the Winding House on the subject of The Bevin Boys.  It was well presented including a powerpoint show and there was good lively interaction from the members who had some personal knowledge and stories to tell of these men who were drafted during the 2nd WW to supplement the low number of miners in employment to supply the much needed coal.

The group was informed that the Staff Room is being relocated to the Tec block next to the Cefn Road entrance and that there was a possibility that our April meeting will be affected.  11 members also volunteered their help to empty and move our cupboards.

After the meeting there was a buzz of conversation as folk caught up with friends.

We were reminded that the April meeting has been brought forward to the 4th because the school will be closed for the Easter holidays and we expect a visit from Malcolm Otton.
