On a lovely sunny morning we set out for the new premises of Somerset Archives. We made good time, and arrived soon after 10 am, full of optimism.
There was a vast array of records, and plenty of willing staff ready to assist us. As always, some were a little disappointed in the results – perhaps next time we will find those elusive clues. But others were delighted to find just what they were looking for. Sweet success!
Not all of our party were in research mode – some of us took the opportunity to head for the county town of Taunton, to explore the shops and alleyways, decorated for Britain in Bloom. In Bath Lane there was also a colourful display of crocheted Alice in Wonderland scenes – so much work and ingenuity
Among the beautiful old buildings of the town, the superb Museum is not to be missed – local history brought dramatically to life.
A lovely day out for all of us. Once again, our thanks go to Anne and Dorothy.
