We meet on the second Thursday of most months from 10am – 12 and the last Friday of the month starting at 7pm when the members can use the extensive branch resources.
Our aim is to be a friendly approachable branch and we usually have experienced researchers who can help you to start or progress your family history and give you ideas to help you demolish those brick walls we all find when searching for our ancestors.
We meet at St Johns Community Hall, Wainfelin, NP4 6EQ. This is to the north of Pontypool Town Centre. The church is on the corner of Penywain Road and St Johns Close. There is dedicated parking at the side of the church and the main entrance is through the gate at the top of the car park and then follow the path around to the main door of the church.
Our library includes transcriptions of local parish records, school admission registers for Pontypool schools, transcripts of Eastern Valley Methodist and Baptist chapel records and many other local reference materials which can be used at meetings. Many our resources are only available locally not on the internet.
We have WiFi access.
We have a library of CD-Roms covering various parts of the country that members can use.
Our microfiche library includes gravestone inscriptions for the branch area and other parts of Monmouthshire.
We have a selection of books of historical or genealogical interest, to assist members with their research or to provide information on the social or historic background. Members may borrow the books.
