All our meetings are held at Newport Civic Centre, NP20 4UR (its Clock Tower is one of Newport’s landmarks). Use the main entrance in the front (north-west side) of the building, and ask at the reception desk for specific directions to the room where the meeting is being held – this can sometimes vary. Meetings are from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.
Tuition meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month (excluding December, January and August), and branch meetings are held on the last Wednesday of the month with an invited speaker talking on a subject related to family history except in July and also in December, when it is held on the second Wednesday of December and at the Newport YMCA. Details concerning this will be given at the meetings leading up to this event.
The Branch runs a free Help Desk, to answer queries and give help and advice to members of the public researching their family history. This is held at Newport Reference Library, John Frost Square, Newport on the second Wednesday of each month (excluding December and January), from 2.00pm until 4.00 pm.
We have a selection of books of historical or genealogical interest, to assist members with their research or to provide information on the social or historic background. Members may borrow the books. As these now have to be held off site you will need to book them with the librarian a month in advance.
We have a library of CD-ROMs, which members may borrow at the Branch meetings for use in the persons own home. They include all branch transcriptions together with a range of other sources. Again they are held off site so again you are able to book them for the following month at the meetings.
We have sets of various microfiche and fiche readers. They include the MIs for Monmouthshire. Again they are held off site so again you are able to book them at the meetings for the following month.
