Derek Fielding had previously given a talk entitled ‘Black Sheep’ which detailed the criminality of some of his ancestors. This time, to redress the balance, he located ancestors of worthwhile character. By the repeated use of baptism followed by marriage records he traced back to the time of King Charles I. There he found two ancestors who were vicars.
Not only did they have interesting lives but, as vicars, they appeared in contemporary written records. Using these, helped by the Welsh Patronymical traditions, he then traced back further until eventually reaching Welsh Nobility and even Royalty.
