This month we were entertained by one of our own members, who impressed us with the results of her research.
We heard of ancestors who had travelled far and wide, sometimes returning to this country once more, but creating what seemed to us to be a world-wide network.
But then things became even more interesting, as we visited the seamier side of life.
Our speaker (a member of a well-known, well-respected local family, all ‘brought up tidy’) kept us laughing as she revealed, time and again, ancestors who had spent time at His/Her Majesty’s pleasure. Fortunately, no really serious crimes were committed, but some of her forebears were woefully familiar with the inside of a prison cell.
Some of our members were inspired to spend the following research hour hunting for similarly interesting nuggets – who knows what secrets will be revealed next month?
