The Chepstow and Wye Valley Branch of GFHS will hold a short AGM and a Members’ Research evening.
As the meeting falls upon Armistice Day, 11th Day of the 11th Month, the theme for the evening will be War and Remembrance. Perhaps you can bring an object or some memorabilia associated with the many conflicts over the past century.
Maybe you have an ancestor who was involved? A mother working in munitions, a soldier injured or sadly died in combat. Have you any memories of your own, did you know where they were stationed, what theatre of war. Do you remember rationing, evacuation of children, bombed properties, shortages. Was there any fun, the Americans, “over here and oversexed”, GI brides, and jitterbugging!
Have you any brick walls, waiting for records of WW2 servicemen, any knowledge what conditions that they served in, photographs perhaps. Please bring your stories to share with us. We will have the facilities to project presentations, preferably on a memory stick.
Note that the Welsh Street Car Park is free from 6pm. The Marks and Spencer car park is limited to two hours
