Newport Branch Talks, 2024 February 29

Newport through Time, Part Three (Monty Dart)

This month we listened to probably our most popular speaker, Monty Dart, who continued the story of Newport from last month’s talk by Keith Wood.

We heard a miscellany of interesting facts and pictures- some previously unknown to us, others refreshing long forgotten memories. Amongst the collection were the reasons why Lord Evan Tredegar faced a count martial, the numerous notable buildings destroyed by fire, the hidden graffiti left by American GIs at Tredegar House and the suspected murder of Mary Yafai and the subsequent dreadful fate of her daughters in Yemen.
