Blackwood – Betty Perry’s Family

At our October meeting, we welcomed Branch member Mrs Elizabeth (Betty) Perry who had agreed to give a talk on her family history.  Branch members giving talks has become a popular event at our meetings and Betty had an interesting tale of her farming ancestors from around the Gelligaer and Argoed areas.  She had many photographs, some 2 feet square (OK, 610mm square if you insist) of her grand and great grandparents.  Her mother left school at 13 years of age and was soon embroiled in farming activities including her own milk round as she grew older.  In 1929, Betty had a list of chickens her mother had for sale with a 6 lb (2.784kg) chicken costing 9 shillings.  A thoroughly enjoyable talk and deserving of the applause on completion.
