Richard, one of the Newport group members, gave his first talk to us on 29th August – and it was a very good one. He gave a detailed and excellently researched survey of all his ancestors in the last few generations. Their birth places were wide ranging – Birmingham, Bretforton in the Evesham area, Swansea, Newport and the West Country. He then outlined the results of his recent DNA analysis (and that of his wife). The results were surprising- only 36% British. Other contributions were from West and East Europe, Scandinavia (Vikings, anyone?) and even India. We could then understand his title “We Don’t Always Know Who We Think We Are”
