Chepstow – Severn Bridge Disaster

In February 2018, David Harrison came to talk about the Severn Bridge Disaster, when two barges crashed into the Severn Railway Bridge.. Five men lost their lives on the night in 1960 when the collision happened in fog. The Severn is a dangerous river with strong currents and it was thought that this may have contributed to the accident. The railway bridge had connected Lydney with Sharpness for 80years, completed in 1879 and demolished by 1970. Mr Harrison is an entertaining speaker, and he finished the evening with some lighter anecdotes about Monmouthshire
