Dr Price, originally from Pontypridd and later of Llantrisant, is best remembered as a pioneer in the introduction of cremation as an alternative to burial. His infant child was one of the first to be put to rest in this fashion. However Mr Powell showed us that Price was a true polymath with interests, at various time of his long life, in medicine, politics (having established an embryonic National Health Service), Welsh culture and language, Druidism as a religion and the law (defending himself in court against the charge arising from his infant’s cremation- and winning the case). He was also greatly occupied as a womaniser!
Dean Powell certainly gave us one of the outstanding talks of our year, packed full of interest and humour.
